How to Simply Store Herbs for Winter
I hope your herb gardens are spoiling you with abundance. I often get asked the best ways to save herbs for winter and it is so easily that it will only take you a few minutes to prepare!
HOW TO SIMPLY PRESERVE HERBS:
cut 4-5 stems of your herbs, more than this can risk moisture to be trapped and mold to occur
tie them together at the bottom using twine or string
hang them upside down to dry for 2-3 weeks in a cool, dark, and non-humid place (usually a basement)
Once they crumble when you touch them they are dried and ready to be stored in spice jars, mason jars, or however you prefer!
Remember to store herbs out of heat, sunlight, and in a closed container to preserve the quality of your homegrown herbs.
This method also works with herbal flowers (roses, calendula, etc) , but instead of hanging to dry you would individually lay the flowers on a screen or rack to dry over time.
“If you want to speed up the process to a single day you can use one of these methods instead.
*purchase a dehydrator*
*use an Instant Pot that has a dehydrator setting (this is what I do)*
*Use your oven around 130 degrees for a few hours*”
I do this every few weeks all summer long - and in January I am so glad I did.
