Fall Gardening in Michigan

I find the end of July can often feel a lot like the cold of winter - it's excessively hot, and often you want to take refuge inside instead of in your garden.

This can lead to many gardens becoming neglected, and perhaps you now feel like fall is coming so your goal of growing a great garden has passed.

✨🥕 BUT WAIT 🥕✨

Fall gardening is coming!

So get back into your garden, clear out any plants that aren't doing well, support the ones that are and get ready to plant NEW seeds for the fall.

In Michigan you can direct sow your fall roots (carrots, beets, radishes, etc) and greens like leaf lettuces around Mid-August.

If you started any of the other cool season seeds inside like broccoli, cauliflower, head lettuces, cabbage, etc then Mid-August is a great time to start hardening them off to come outside.

DIRECT SOWING TIP:

Don't be afraid to direct plant seeds in your garden. As long as its the appropriate temperature for these seeds to grow, they will.

The hardest part of directly seeding in the summer vs. the spring is the requirement of constant moisture.  So keep this in mind, never let the soil dry out, and you will be on your way to plenty of fall harvest seedlings without spending a ton at the nursery (if you can even find any in Michigan that sell fall transplants)

🌱 The Garden-To-Table Jumpstart

Inside the class, I’ll walk you through the three things every garden needs to succeed:

A solid setup, the right timing, and small moments of consistency.

These are the pieces that gardeners often learn the hard way, and they’re also the pieces that unlock ease and confidence—especially for beginners.

In this free masterclass, you’ll learn:

  • How to design a raised bed setup that actually works (so you’re not fighting your garden all season)

  • What to plant when here in Michigan, and why timing is everything

  • Why a few minutes of attention truly makes the biggest difference

  • The exact steps I teach beginners so they can stop Googling and finally feel sure of what they’re doing

If you want your raised bed to feel fun, productive, and doable—not confusing—this class is the best place to start.
